TEAMS

OUR TEAMS

Normally, the Black Hills Junior Football League is made up of four divisions of seven teams each, for a total of 28 teams. Each team is organized by their middle school "franchise" and then by their grade-level division. Each middle school has two franchises per division. Players and cheerleaders are assigned to a team based on their school of attendance. All games are played at South Sound Stadium at North Thurston High School in Lacey, and at Chinook Middle School, which is right next door.

We say "normally" because these are not normal times. COVID-19 has thrown a HUGE monkey wrench into activities not only in our state, but across the nation. On July 21, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) decided to move all fall sports to this coming spring (2021). This includes all high school sports, such as girls soccer and football. Though not under the jurisdiction of the WIAA, we have decided it best to follow their lead. We have therefore moved our fall tackle football to the spring of 2021 for the safety of our parents and players.

Also not in the "normal" category is the fact that for only the second time in our 27 year history, we have a change at the top. President Chuck Farrar has decided to retire after 21 years at the helm. The Executive Board has also undergone changes as the new President and Vice-President are long-time league participants Ruben Ramirez and Phillip Crump, respectively. And that's not all!

With the move to spring and the changes in leadership, we have decided (on what will be for the foreseeable future) to realign the league's teams. The opening of Salish Middle School as the fourth middle school in the North Thurston School District will be better recognized in our team structure. This has been our structure to this point:

Practice locations will be announced at a later date, once we've had a chance to meet with the North Thurston School District and the Lacey Parks Department. Since they control practice sites, there needs to be even more coordination now that we're moving to Spring tackle football for this season. We intend to have tackle in the fall of 2021, so it'll be a short off-season for those who opt to play both Spring and Fall tackle football!
